Cadets/Parents,
As you embark on this experience you will become a part of the long and distinguished heritage and traditions of New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI). This experience is rooted in the principles represented by our motto, “Duty, Honor and Achievement” which has represented our school since 1891. With a strong heritage and tradition embedded in our environment, NMMI has become a progressive college preparatory high school and junior college that employs the military model to educate and train its cadets in leadership and ethical behavior. While we share similarities with our nation’s service academies and state military colleges and academies, eventual military service is an option, not a requirement. We focus on our cadets attaining academic excellence, character development, and physical fitness; while providing them with pro-active campus leadership opportunities. Approximately, 80% of our graduates ascend to significant positions in business and civilian careers at the local/state and national level.
As the 20th President and Superintendent, your success, and the continued success of the Institute, is my priority. It is important to me to continue the school’s efforts to expand and improve upon the already superior education for which the school is well-known. I will continue to support and encourage your participation in the many activities and programs on our campus that will make you a better-rounded, fully-engaged person during this educational experience. Every member of the NMMI community must be supported, respected, and have the resources necessary to thrive. I know there are already many people and initiatives at NMMI working toward that goal. It will be my responsibility to amplify those efforts, identify new ways to strengthen our community further, and promote your success. I am excited that you are here to build upon the legacy of excellence and distinction established over the 134 years of the school’s existence.
With that in mind, this experience will be one of daily progression, adjustment, challenge, and opportunity. The types of opportunities that enable you exchange ideas, debate issues, learn new things, meet new people and challenge yourself. Several different prospects await you! However, you must be willing to invest the necessary time, effort and initiative to be successful. Are you ready to succeed and achieve your goals? If you are, my staff and I are here to support you as you carve out your own NMMI legacy.
The information in this catalog, together with the advice from your academic counselor will assist you in planning and achieving your academic goals.
Good luck! I wish you much success as you work toward your future.
