ARBC 2113 - Intermediate Arabic I

Intermediate Arabic I is the second year Arabic language course for students who initially had no background in Arabic and successfully completed both semesters of Beginning Arabic. This course fulfills part of the Humanities graduation requirement. Intermediate Arabic I continues the study of basic vocabulary and grammar topics and the development of the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary units include a review and expansion of previous topics as well as new vocabulary topics that can be used to describe everyday surroundings and circumstances. Grammar topics include review and additional practice of the three tenses as well as continued practice of Arabic syntax. Students should be able to communicate at an intermediate level using the basic vocabulary and grammar covered up to this point and should be able to understand and produce paragraph length passages. Additionally, students will gain insight into the language-learning process and the importance of possessing accurate cultural background information about the native speakers of other languages.
