SPMD 1310 - Introduction to Kinesiology

3.0 Credit Hours
Introduction to Kinesiology, is a course designed to introduce the student to the field of Kinesiology.  Areas explored and covered include Exercise Physiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Motor Behavior, Biomechanics, Strength and Conditioning, and Exercise Prescription. Additional focus will be on the Academic processes related to professional and graduate programs to and including Physical Therapy and Athletic Training.  The course is comparable to like-named courses offered at 4-year institutions throughout the country.  The interdisciplinary approach will provide the student with a clearer understanding of the ways in which the scientific process can inform human efforts.  This 3.0 credit hour course consists of three hours of lecture.  The course will prepare students for additional coursework in varied areas of the Exercise Physiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology and related sciences and should be acceptable for transfer credit to any 4-year institution offering degree programs in the areas mentioned above. Grades will be determined from lecture exams, special assignments, and a comprehensive final exam.  The course may be taken by science majors or non-majors.
