Catalog Changes Page


The following are changes as of the date indicated. Changes are approved through the Curriculum and Standards committee, Faculty Senate, Dean and Superintendent. When necessary, some changes are approved by NMMI Board of Regents.


High School

New high school courses introduced in 2023-24:

SPN 012A Advanced Spanish 1B

Other high school changes in 2023-24:

  • CHM 031 (Chemistry A) - Pre-requisite change to “MTH 021/022 (Minimum Grade: D)”. Previously required a grade of “C” or better.
  • High School Class Designation - Removed English course requirements to be designated as HS sophomore, junior and senior. Graduation requirement of completing English 9, 10, 11 and 12 remains in place.
  • BUS 051 (Financial Literacy)/MTH 053 (Math Finance and Literacy) - Pre-requisite change to “MTH 022 (Minimum Grade: D)”. Previously required completion of Algebra II.
  • SPN 031 (Spanish 3A) - Pre-requisite change to “SPN 012A, SPN 022 or instructor/department permission”. Previously was SPN 022 or instructor/department permission.

College

New college courses introduced in 2023-24:

None  

Other college changes in 2023-24:

  • For initial math course placement, ACT, SAT and Accuplacer test scores are now accepted along with the NMMI MPE. See the NMMI college math placement criteria .
  • BIOL 1164 (Forensics) - Pre-requisite change to “Any college biology or chemistry course (Minimum Grade: D), or department permission.”. Previously, no pre-requisite existed.
  • Several changes to the NMMI General Educaton Curriculum. A list of currently approved New Mexico general education is available on the NMMI General Education Curriculum webpage  .
  • Due to the above general education changes, some changes were made to how courses count towards core curriculum graduation requirements for both the A.A. and A.S. degree. Please review graduation requirements our Associate in Arts - Core Course Requirements  and Associate in Science - Core Course Requirements . Some highlights include:
    • English and British Literature courses will no longer count as second English course. They will count towards Humanities requirement.
    • History courses will now count towards Humanities requirement, after cadet has fulfilled History course requirement (see AA/AS core course requirements for specifics)
    • To satisfy third communication course requirement, Public Speaking, Introduction to Communications and Interpersonal Communications are acceptable courses.
    • Computer Science courses are no longer counted as lab sciences.

To improve transferability among NM colleges/universities the following courses underwent course number changes, after being approved in the New Mexico Common Course Numbering System:
