SPAN 2806 - Accelerated Intermediate Spanish Accelerated Intermediate Spanish is the Second year Spanish language course for students who had no background in Spanish and who completed the first-year sequence. It covers all of the material for second-year Spanish in one semester. This course fulfills the Humanities graduation requirement. Intermediate Spanish continues the introduction of basic vocabulary and grammar topics. Students are expected to continue developing communicative competency in the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary units cover words used to describe everyday surroundings and actions. Grammar topics include the subjunctive mood, compound verb forms, and object pronouns. Students should be able to communicate at am intermediate level using the basic vocabulary and grammar covered in class and should be able to understand and produce multi paragraph length passages or longer. Cultural topics include the history of Spanish-speaking countries as well as cultural norms involving vocabulary. Additionally, students will continue to gain insight into the language-learning process and the importance of possessing accurate cultural background information about the native speakers of other languages.
SPAN 1806 or the SPAN 1113/1123 sequence are prerequisites for this course. Students with additional prior Spanish knowledge or experience, such as heritage speakers should consult with the instructor for proper placement.
