ARBC 2123 - Intermediate Arabic II

Intermediate Arabic II is the second year Arabic language course for students who initially had no background in Arabic and successfully completed both semesters of Beginning Arabic. This course fulfills part of the Humanities graduation requirement. Intermediate Arabic II continues the study of basic vocabulary and grammar topics and the development of the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary topics include geography, landmarks, careers, politics and news. Grammar topics include various types of complex sentences, the jussive and subjunctive moods, negation in the various tenses and the introduction of commands. Students should be able to communicate at an intermediate level using the basic vocabulary and grammar covered up to this point and should be able to understand and produce paragraph-length passages. Additionally, students will gain insight into the language-learning process and the importance of possessing accurate cultural background information about the native speakers of other languages.
