ARBC 1123 - Elementary Arabic II

Elementary Arabic II is the second half of the first year Arabic language course for students who have no background in Arabic. This course fulfills part of the Humanities graduation requirement. It continues the study of basic vocabulary and grammar topics. Students are expected to begin developing communicative competency in the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary units cover words for describing the everyday circumstances and surroundings for a typical student as well as those used to describe trips and vacations. Grammar topics include present and past tense verb forms, noun-adjective agreement and the proper use of pronouns. Students should be able to communicate at a beginning level using the basic vocabulary and grammar covered in class and should be able to understand and produce sentence-length passages. Additionally, students will gain insight into the language-learning process and the importance of possessing accurate cultural background information about the native speakers of other languages.
