NMMI General Education Curriculum

The state of New Mexico general education model allows college students to focus on essential skills needed in today’s society, as they see advanced degrees and/or careers. The New Mexico general education model consists of six areas. Within the general education model are 31 total credit hours, nine of which are elective (flex) hours determined by the institution. The current approved NMMI general education courses are listed below within their general education areas.
Communications (6 Credit Hours)
Mathematics (3 Credit Hours)
Science (4 Credit Hours)
Social & Behavioral Sciences (3 Credit Hours)
Humanities (3 Credit Hours)
Creative & Fine Arts (3 Credit Hours)

Flex I: Second English (3.0 Hrs - One course)
Flex II: History (3.0 Hrs - One course)
Flex III: Humanities (3.0 Hrs - One course)
Any course listed in the Humanities course list above. For A.S. degree, can be taken.
Note: HIST 2145 is an approved Humanities course for New Mexico General Education. However, for the A.A. NMMI graduation requirement, this course applies towards the second History graduation requirement. It is recommended that those pursuing an A.A. degree take a Humanities course other than HIST 2145 to satisfy this Flex III general education requirement.
